FAQ

Do you charge fees for BA, MA or PhD programmes? Depending on your status (for example, but not exclusively, as a federal quota student), you may study for free. The fees applicable for each faculty can be found here.
GAUGN is committed to keeping education costs low for its students, and it offers a flexible system of grants fully or partially covering learning and/or housing costs, scholarships and other incentives based on academic merit or social circumstances. You can fill in an Application Form here.

Do you provide rooms in a student dorm? Yes, GAUGN has a working agreement with the Academy of Sciences dormitory. You can select a place in a double room or a single room. Dormitory fee waivers can be offered to international students who do not dispose of significant income or come from a socially disadvantaged background.

Will your degree be recognised in my home country?

A large number of countries have mutual recognition agreements with Russia. Check with your national education authority (or here), if this apply in your case. Alternatively, almost all countries have standard recognition (nostrification) procedures for foreign degrees; check with your national education authority which rules & regulations will apply.

Do you offer apprenticeships or stages? Yes. GAUGN lays great value on providing its students first working experience to make them more competitive in the labour market. We have a number of working agreements between the university, its faculties, RAS institutes and other partners in Russia and abroad to make sure that our students get practical skills while studying at GAUGN. These programmes would range from teaching slots to archaeological research to public service or NGO’s, apart from academic activities or research missions.

Is there a preparation year at GAUGN? No, but we do offer our students an opportunity to enrol in intensive language courses run by the Pushkin Institute.

Are there any programmes taught in English at GAUGN? All degree programmes are delivered in Russian. However, GAUGN has international academic staff, and several courses will be delivered in English. Language courses at the Oriental Faculty are given by native speakers.
