Monthly digest: October

Here are the most interesting events, that happened on October.

On October 4, a round table was held at the Presidium of the Russian Academy of Sciences on the topic "Russia-Japan: an outlook for a Scientific-Educational Partnership". As a part of the event, the State Academic University for the Humanities (GAUGN) and the KIBI International University (Japan) signed a bilateral agreement on scientific and educational co-operation and the implementation of the double degree program. This is the first agreement on a double degree program between a Russian and Japanese university.

On October 7, a group of third-year students of the Faculty of Philosophy of the GAUGN, made a trip to the Voskresensky New Jerusalem Monastery together with professors M. A. Pilyugin and A. S. Tsygankov, which was a part of the course "History of Russian Philosophy".

On October 19, the GREEN-GAUGN organized a meeting with Anastasia Tsvetkova, General Director of the Lake Baikal Environmental Charitable Foundation.

Her lecture covered the following questions:

  • how the non-profit sector in ecology sphere in Russia works;
  • where a person with a humanitarian education and the desire to change the world for the better can work;
  • how NPOs promote ecological knowledge among young people.

The General Director of the Foundation told about international experience, shared tips on choosing a career.

On October 19, one of the leaders of the Institute of Dzongsara Khyentse Chökyi Lodro, professor in the field of religious studies, Ph.D (Khenpo) Mr. Choying Dorzhe gave a lecture on the topic "Principles and the role of debate in the Tibetan Buddhist tradition" within the scientific and educational lectures GAUGN "Time to think".

Mr. Choying Dorzhe told the audience the rules of the Buddhist debate system - how it originated, the line-up of the debaters, how they were conducted and what was the main goal of the debate.

On October 31 the Institute of Oriental Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences celebrated its 200th anniversary, and students celebrated Halloween at an unofficial party, which was organized by the Student Union.
