Semiótica de la Cultura. De Yuri Lotman al futuro
In 2020-2022, the GAUGN International Center for Semiotics and Intercultural Dialogue implemented an exclusive joint project with the specialized journal of the Latin American Federation of Semiotics - deSignis (Web of Science, Argentina). In autumn 2022, a special issue of the journal deSignis «Semiotics of Culture. From Yuri Lotman to the Future» (Semiótica de la Cultura. De Yuri Lotman al futuro/ Semiotics of culture: from Yuri Lotman to the future), was published. The publication of the issue was included in the official program of events for the anniversary of the scientist, held under the auspices of UNESCO.
The issue was prepared by an international team of guest editors: Inna Merkoulova (GAUGN University, Moscow, Russia), Miguel Martín (Complutense University, Madrid, Spain), Franciscu Sedda (University of Cagliari, Italy), with the participation of Pampa Arán (University of Cordoba, Argentina). The project also pays tribute to the memory of the outstanding Spanish semiotician Jorge Lozano, a researcher of Lotman's work and a popularizer of the semiotics of culture in Spanish-speaking countries.
The 300-page issue was attended by authors from 11 countries: Argentina, Azerbaijan, Brazil, Italy, Spain, Mexico, Russia, Uruguay, France, Estonia, South Korea. For the first time, Russian scientists - semioticians, philosophers, linguists - participate in this journal with more than twenty years of history.
The 24 articles of the issue in Spanish and Portuguese are divided into four thematic parts: 1. Semiotics of culture and history; 2. Semiospheres and forms of culture; 3. Borders and phenomena of translation; 4. Cultural passions. Additionally, the issue presents a previously unpublished translation into Spanish of one of Lotman’s texts on the functions of historical science.
One of the main objectives of the special issue was to show the trends in the development of the semiotics of culture in the 21st century in an interdisciplinary aspect, in its connection with history and Lotman's key concepts of dynamics, gradual progress, etc. The special issue is structured as a scientific dialogue between representatives of various semiotic currents, with Lotman’s postulate about culture as “the non-hereditary memory of the collective” at the center of the debate.
The issue is available on the deSignis website
